European Network for Health-Promoting Schools (ENHPS)

What is ENHPS?

The European Network for Health-Promoting Schools (ENHPS) brings together Member States of the WHO European Region, researchers and partner organizations to advance whole-school approaches to health and well-being.

The Network supports the implementation of the joint WHO/UNICEF strategy “A healthy start for a healthy life (2026–2030)” and facilitates exchange, capacity-building and research collaboration across countries and sectors.

Health-promoting schools use a whole-school approach that integrates health and well-being into school policies, learning environments, teaching and community partnerships.

 

Objectives

ENHPS aims to:

  • support intersectoral collaboration between health and education sectors
  • strengthen implementation of health-promoting school approaches across the Region
  • facilitate the exchange of experiences, practices and resources between countries
  • support research, evidence generation and knowledge sharing
  • strengthen collaboration between ministries, researchers and partner organizations.

 

Governance and coordination

The Network is coordinated through collaboration between WHO/Europe, designated national focal points, researchers and partner organizations.

The ENHPS Secretariat is hosted by WHO/Europe with support from the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research in Education and Health, UNESCO Chair Global Health & Education and EuroHealthNet.

National focal points

Member States have been invited to designate focal points from their ministry of health and ministry of education to support coordination and collaboration within the Network.

Research collaboration

The Health-Promoting Schools Research Group (HPS-RG) contributes to research collaboration, evidence generation and academic exchange related to health-promoting schools.

 

Expert group

An HPS Expert Group is being established to support technical exchange and collaboration across the Network.

Participation includes national focal points, former Schools for Health in Europe (SHE) network coordinators, members of the EuroHealthNet technical working group on health-promoting schools and key partners.

 

Partner organizations

WHO/Europe works closely with several partner organizations, including:

  • WHO Collaborating Centre on Global Health and education & UNESCO Chair Global Health & Education; and
  • EuroHealthNet.

 

Meetings and activities

ENHPS will convene regular online meetings, technical exchanges and collaborative activities to support knowledge sharing and cooperation across countries and sectors.
