Every year, on 31 May, WHO marks World No Tobacco Day (WNTD). The annual campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure, and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form.
The theme of WNTD 2027 is “Mental well-being – protecting young minds from tobacco and nicotine”. The campaign will raise awareness of the impact of tobacco and nicotine use on mental well-being, particularly among children and young people, and challenge misleading narratives that portray nicotine and tobacco products as a way to cope with stress, anxiety or the pressures of everyday life. In addition, the 2027 campaign aims to empower people by providing them with evidence-based information and evidence-based prevention strategies to protect their health and well-being; promote accessible and evidence-based tobacco and nicotine cessation and other relevant health services; and encourage governments and partners to strengthen policies and programmes that protect young people from tobacco and nicotine addiction and support those who want to quit.
WHO is calling for nominations of individuals or organizations for their accomplishments in the area of tobacco control. For further details and a description of the process, please visit the WNTD 2027 awards website.
The deadline for submission of nominations is 20 November 2026, at 17:00 GMT
