WHO guidelines for malaria
Overview
The WHO guidelines for malaria bring together the Organization’s most up-to-date recommendations for malaria in one user-friendly and easy-to-navigate online platform.
Recommendations on malaria continue to be reviewed and, where appropriate, updated based on the latest available evidence. Any updated recommendations will always display the date of the most recent revision in the MAGICapp platform. With each update, a new PDF version of the consolidated guidelines will also be available for download on the WHO website.
This version of the Guidelines includes updated recommendations on: (i) intermittent preventive treatment in HIV-positive pregnant women; (ii) the use of single-dose primaquine for transmission blocking in areas of moderate to high malaria transmission; (iii) a new formulation of artemether-lumefantrine for treating malaria in children less than 5kg bw; and (iv) three-dose versus four-dose vaccination schedules in areas of perennial malaria transmission.
It replaces the versions published on 16 February 2021, 13 July 2021, 18 February 2022, 31 March 2022, 3 June 2022, 25 November 2022, 14 March 2023, 16 October 2023, 30 November 2024 and 13 August 2025.
