2024 EIOS Global Technical Meeting Highlights

Overview

The Meeting Highlights summary provides an overview of the 2024 EIOS Global Technical Meeting (GTM), which took place in Saly, Senegal from 10–12 December 2024. The meeting, co-hosted by the WHO Regional Office for Africa with support from the European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), brought together nearly 200 participants from 70 countries under the theme “The Future of Public Health Intelligence.” It offered a dynamic platform for the EIOS and broader public health intelligence (PHI) community to explore technological advancements, strengthen collaborative surveillance, and build workforce capacity in this field.

Hosting the event in Senegal underscored the growing importance of the WHO Dakar Hub and enabled strong engagement from the growing number of Member States joining the EIOS initiative from the Africa Region. Through hands-on workshops, interactive sessions, and strategic discussions, participants emphasized the need for harmonized PHI frameworks, equitable and scalable AI tools, and mechanisms to sustain collaboration beyond the meeting. As the fifth GTM, and the second in-person iteration since the pandemic, the meeting reaffirmed EIOS’ mission to advance global PHI through innovation, partnership, and community-driven learning.
